Five Black men sue Trump

By Staff

NEW YORK, NY - Former President Donald Trump is today facing another legal challenge as the Exonerated Five, formerly known as the Central Park Five, have sued him for his “false and defamatory” comments during a debate with Kamala Harris.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Philadelphia, claims that Trump’s statements were false and defamatory in numerous respects, as the men never pled guilty to the Central Park assaults and maintained their innocence throughout their trial and incarceration.

The jogger case was Trump’s first foray into tough-on-crime politics, which has since been a fixture of his public life, often accompanied by dog whistles and overtly racist rhetoric. The men had their convictions vacated in 2002 after evidence linked another person to the brutal beating and rape of the Central Park jogger. Despite this, Trump refused to apologize to the exonerated men in 2019.
