By Robert "Rob" Redding Jr.
Editor & PublisherNEW YORK, Sept. 11, 2017, 1 p.m. - The best art is sometimes the simplest and Massey Lyuben Gallery's solo exhibition of Eric Helvie is simply a superb show.
For the first time the gallery presented O. The circle is the icon many smart phone users with poor service often get of glowing screens loading mobile pictures.
The Portland-born and South African raised artist tells this writer that his oil paintings are painstakingly rendered in oil over more than 20 hour sessions. It can be said that the European masters have done all the great realistic works as it relates to the old world but Helvie does a hell of a job capturing the new loading one on our cell phones.
Also worth viewing in Chelsea are the works of two women.
Kara Walker as usual attracted thousands at her "most Astounding and Important" Sikkema Jenkins Gallery show. Thousands viewed the paintings and gossiped more about the artist hiding for a large part of the show behind the gallery walls of the office than the art that the gallery is showing.
The California-born artist declined to speak to this reporter about her provactive race-focused works in the wake of Charlottesville, Va. The gallery's Director Sascha Feldman told us it just that she is not giving interviews, while she simultaneously spoke to star Washington Post journalist and editor Eugene Robinson.

Martin's work in "HOW IT FEELS FALLING FOR YOU" is always lovely, intricate and colorful. What struck me as very real is how she told this reporter and other artists that the hardest part of her work is the cutting and sometimes wondering about her direction.

The fact her work seems fresh and fun is why she is one of my favorite artist at the gallery, to which this writer and artist also belongs.
