NEW YORK, July 21, 2017, 2 p.m. - Academy Award nominated filmmaker John Singleton yesterday was unapologetic about getting a black British actor for his new '80s crack-epidemic drama TV series Snowfall.

Singleton, who has a penchant for finding new actors and making them stars, touting of UK Snowfall star Damson Idris comes as actor Samuel L. Jackson has hit many for the use of British actors.

"He was the best actor for the job," he told Redding News Review.

Earlier in the evening, Idris was asked how he learned to be black in an American context.

Idris cited just how "Americanized" London is and how he admires the music of Kendrick Lamar, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and 2Pac.
