Black unemployment rate down

Jan. 8, 2016, 10 a.m. - The black unemployment rate today was down after being flat for two consecutive periods, according to a just released jobs report by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The rate was down to 8.3 percent after being flat at 9.2 percent in fresh month-to-month data, according to the report. The rate had been 9.2 percent since it declined from 9.5 percent.

In contrast, the white unemployment rate was up slightly from 4.3 percent to 4.5 percent.

The overall unemployment rate was flat at 5 percent, according to the report.
