NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2016, 4 p.m. - Attorney Roy Miller made the following statement to the Redding News Review, concerning the Colin Kaepernick protest.

"I was very critical of Kaepernick's timing and intent from the start...but I am seeing an awakening. Sometimes it only takes a spark to ignite an explosion. If God can use a burning bush, he can also use a sitting Kaepernick. Many brilliant minded and skilled black Americans needed awakening and many are beginning to focus on real issues more than sports. Except for a collective few, we have struggled forever in the country that we want to equally belong. We have withstood the beatings, the burnings, the lynchings and the going before unjust Judges, knowing that ...that was all the justice we were going to get.

"The Michael Browns and Trayvon Martins tell us, that is all the justice you're going to get. That is not enough. That is less than what every other race gets. I love all people and I stand against injustice hurting any race. It hurts me that many paid public servants are expressing dislike for Kaepernick's stand, but never give an opinion on our national anthem, which makes run away slaves out to be the bad guys. Do we still stand and sing or does it even matter how we feel? It is not the man Kaepernick that I am watching, it is the awakening."
