Black unemployment rate stays high

March 4, 2016, 10 a.m. - The black unemployment rate today remained high, according to a just released jobs report by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The rate remained high at 8.8 percent in fresh month-to-month data, according to the report. The rate was down briefly to 8.3 percent, which is the lowest level in years.

In contrast, the white unemployment rate was flat at 4.3 percent.

The overall unemployment rate was flat at 4.9 percent, according to the report.
