Black unemployment is down a full percent to a record low under Obama

By Staff

ATLANTA, May 4, 2012, 9:30 a.m. - Black unemployment continued to inch down in April by a full percentage point to 13 percent, which is a record low for President Obama, according to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The black unemployment rate in April was down to 13 percent from 14 percent in March, according to the department. The March rate was down from the February rate of 14.1 percent, which was up from 13.6 in January. December's rate was 15.8 percent.

The April rate is the lowest the unemployment rate has been for blacks since Obama came into office. Obama, the nation's first black to hold the office, last year asked blacks what he could do to bring down the escalating rate. When Obama came into office, he had said that he would not do any targeted programs to blacks.
