Redding: Drudge uses Helen Thomas mess to hit Obama, blacks

June 5, 2010, 6 p.m. - Did I miss something or does our first black president hate Jews? If you have had the opportunity to log on to the Drudge Report, you may have noticed that Matt Drudge decided to run a picture of President Obama and journalist Helen Thomas who made an insane and inappropriate comment about Jews living in Israel.

Drudge's headline: "WH Press Queen: Jews Get Out of Israel, Go Back to Poland."

Now, Thomas may deserve this type of lambasting but does Obama?

I know that Drudge is a conservative with Libertarian leanings, but this image and headline are more than political. The image and headline are more than Drudge just trying to drag down the president's popularity for political reasons.

What's my point, Drudge, who is a Jew, is subtly ripping a further divide between Jews and blacks by running this specific photo. The out of context photo - taken on their birthdays, Aug. 4, 2009 - has the president presenting her with a plate of cupcakes, with his right arm around her and a wide grin on his face.

What's more, the photo and headline also indicate that the entire press core is somehow behind what Thomas said.

I thought the stereotype was that Jews ran the media? So now the Jews are condoning her anti-Semitic comments? This is just insane.

The fact is, the people in this photo had nothing to do with Thomas' disgusting comments. The people in this photo - foremost Obama and the many blacks whose image he represents - had nothing to do with this.

Someone had to say it and now that I have, maybe people will stop paying so much attention to Drudge, who has had his challenges with reporting on race.

And before you Drudge defenders start assailing my column on this matter as just a black guy defending our black president, you should know that I too am an Independent and frankly could care less about Obama's popularity.
