N-word lawyer says 'Imus has to go'

ATLANTA, April 11, 2007, 1:30 p.m. - A well-known N-word attorney today said talk show host Don Imus, who is responsible for calling the women of the Rutgers women's basketball team "some nappy- headed ho’s", should be fired.

"This was not just an attack on Black women basketball players, but this was also an attack on Black America," said Attorney Roy Miller, who had the N-word redacted from a major dictionary in 1994.

"The attack on these young ladies served as a platform to reach and condition millions of African Americans to accept disrespect and seal a fate," Miller said. "Don Imus has to go. For him to keep his employment would equal to an acceptance of disrespect by Black America."

Imus, who remains on the air until his two week suspension starts next week, will meet with the team to formally apologize.

"I have found that around the world, in every country, in every society and in every group, two things have always been certain," Miller said. "They are, those that demand respect have always been on the top and those that accept disrespect have always been on the bottom...We can forgive; however, forgiveness should not be an excuse for accepting disrespect."

Imus, whose show has lost three key advertisers since Monday, has history of these types of comments toward blacks.

PBS Journalist Gwen Ifill has said he has referred to her as the "cleaning lady" in the past. He has denied that comment.

He has also called former Secretary of State Colin Powell a "weasel" and the largely black team of the New York Knicks a group of "chest-thumping pimps."
