WASHINGTON, April 07, 2006, 9:20 a.m. - Media personality Tavis Smiley today said the Bush administration is full of "fools" for covering up the release of classified intelligence to the press.

"These fools are lying, their spying, their leaking," Smiley said of Bush and his advisors. "That is just what we have found out they have done. What about all the stuff we don't know about? It shows you that government is out of control."

Smiley made the comments about Bush while touting his book "The Covenant With Black America", during an interview with show host Donnie Simpson on WPGC-FM.

He told Simpson he was not surprised to learn that President Bush reportedly gave I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby approval to release Valerie Plame's undercover status with the CIA in retaliation for her husband's, former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson, anti-Iraq war views.

"Tell me something I don't know," he said, "Tell me something that we did not expect."

He also said Rep. Cynthia McKinney, a Georgia Democrat who faces charges for assaulting an officer after whisking through a security checkpoint, has "become a distraction for us."

"Our elected officials have to be above this," he said. "All you had to do is stop and say I am a member of Congress."
