WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 2006, 9:10 p.m. - 'NBC Nightly News' Managing Editor and Anchor Brian Williams has chosen to ignore racist remarks made by a prominent comedian, according a columnist.

"'NBC Nightly News has no plans to cover the offensive racial remarks made by Michael Richards, who played Cosmo Kramer on NBC's hugely successful 'Seinfeld' sitcom," an NBC spokeswoman told Journal-isms columnist Richard Prince.

Williams has had to apologize in August for not having any black interns and saying newsroom diversity is not a priority in 2004.

"We have bigger problems," he told a magazine more than two years ago. "There are no black members of the U.S. Senate. We should keep some perspective on this. Nevertheless, I am constantly interested to hear of examples in our coverage where viewers think we got it wrong in one way or another because of a skewed viewpoint."

Richards has been castigated by his peers for repeatedly using the N-word in a weekend comedy performance.
