WASHINGTON, Feb. 26, 2005, 11:30 a.m. - The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson told C-SPAN's Washington Journal that television and radio talk show host Tavis Smiley's annual "State of the Black Union" forum's inclusion of Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton and Minister Louis Farrakhan may actually make matters worse.

"These are the people who caused the problem," he said, "in the community they have black Americans angry at the white man."

Peterson, who has been a frequent critic of these leaders in his recently published book Scam: How the Black Leadership Exploits Black America, said the forum, which is being held near Atlanta this weekend to formulate a "Contract with black America," lacks merit.

"There is no African-American agenda that's a lie within itself. The agenda for African-Americans is the same as it is for white Americans," said the founder of the Los Angeles-based founder of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny.

Peterson's comments came while promoting his organization, book and his summit held in the District on Thursday. The event, entitled "Responding to the Call: The New Black Vanguard Conference," pronounced the day of the "current black leaders," according to AgapePress.org.

The Web site reported: '"Most black folks are suffering not due to racism, but to lack of moral character," Peterson told the crowd gathered at the Heritage Foundation, "and we need to restore those values within the black community."'
