There are three black artist who deserve attention from New York’s art world.

Two of them we found last week at “Parsons MFA/BFA Fine Arts Open Studios.”

The first is Java Jones and Maria Del Pilar (Pili) Lopez-Saavedra. Both are doing inspiring conceptual art.

Jones is doing a great job of simulating everyday textiles in multiple dimensions immersing the viewer.

In addition, Lopez boldly extends into the realms of gender, religion, race, culture, and their intersections.

Outside of Parsons, we also found the work of Kam Lucas who is also doing amazing work with a lot of thought.  His paintings make the eye probe his paintings endlessly finding meaning and examining reality.

All of these artist are up and coming and deserve attention from New York’s art world.
